Jessica Hardy secures Women’s 100m breaststroke title – FINA Swimming World Cup, Singapore
Jessica Hardy of USA secured gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke on first day of the last stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Singapore, Asia on Saturday, November 10.
Hardy stifled hopes of her opponents in the four-lap breaststroke discipline and transpired on the finishing wall for gold medal. She faced tough contest from Sarah Katsoulis of Australia but with her exhausting efforts, she managed to secure top position.
Hardy stayed only a touch ahead of her closest competitor and surfaced on the finishing wall for gold medal with an effort of 1 minute and 05.58 seconds.
Her gold finish remained 0.19 seconds ahead of Sarah Katsoulis of Australia, who occupied silver medal of the discipline by submitting a time of 1 minute and 05.77 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Rie Kaneto of Japan, who stayed nearly half body length behind and surfaced on the finishing end for third position by producing an effort of 1 minute and 06.21 seconds.
Kaneto was traced by Sally Foster of Australia, who was 0.24 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and emerged on the finishing end as fourth fastest swimmer by producing a time of 1 minute and 06.45 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was secured by Rebecca Ejdervik of Sweden, who remained 0.07 seconds slower from her former finisher and tapped the wall for fifth position with a timing of 1 minute and 06.52 seconds.
Ejdervik was traced by Jennie Johansson of Sweden, who stayed 0.18 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and clocked a time of 1 minute and 06.70 seconds.
Seventh place of the race was secured by Samantha Marshall of Australia, who was only 0.56 seconds slower and posted an effort of 1 minute and 07.26 seconds.
Eighth position of the discipline was obtained by Sophie Allen of Great Britain, who was one and a half body length behind and touched the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 08.60 seconds.
Hardy expressed happiness over her victory in the 100m discipline and collected medals and accolades after the event.
