Jessica Hardy seizes Women’s 50 yards freestyle gold – AT&T Winter National Championships
Jessica Hardy of TROJCA seized gold medal of the Women’s 50 yards freestyle on day one of the 2012 AT&T Winter National Championships in Austin, TX, USA on Thursday, November 29.
Hardy dictated terms to her opponents in the shortest freestyle discipline as she proved her eligibility for the title. She faced tough contest from Margo Geer of ZONAAZ from the start but Hardy remained lucky enough to outperform her over the finishing
blockade.
Hardy remained only a touch ahead of her closest competitor and hit the finishing wall for gold medal with a timing of 21.83 seconds.
The champion was followed by Geer, who stayed just 0.01 seconds slower from her over the finishing end and concluded her race in fourth place by producing a time of 21.84 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Christine Magnuson of FORDAZ, who stayed 0.07 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and touched the wall with an effort of 21.91 seconds.
Fourth spot of the race was obtained by Kasey Carlson of USC-CA, who was 0.13 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and reached the wall with the timing of 22.04 seconds.
Carlson was followed by Olivia Smoliga of GTACIL, who stayed 0.01 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and touched the wall for fifth position with an effort of 22.05 seconds.
Similarly, Smoliga was followed by Janet Hu of NCAPPV, who suffered a loss of 0.21 seconds from her foregoing finisher and ended her race in sixth place by posting a time of 22.26 seconds.
Hu remained 0.05 seconds faster from her following swimmer, Ellen Lobb of UT-ST, who concluded her swim in seventh place by touching the wall with a timing of 22.31 seconds.
Last spot of the discipline was obtained by Erika Erndl of T2-FL, who was only one arm-stroke away from her former finisher and failed to make any improvement in her pace, finishing her swim in eighth place with an effort of 22.53 seconds.
In addition, Hardy received massive admiration from the crowd for her notable efforts while the competition will continue for two more days to conclude all events.
