Jessica Hespeler acquires Girls 500 yard freestyle title – High School State Championships
Jessica Hespeler of Ledyard acquired the title of Girls 500 yard freestyle at the 2011 High School State Championships in New Haven, Connecticut, on Saturday, November 19.
Hespeler remained dominant over her competitors throughout the 500 yard event. She completed her first round in a wonderful time of 27.05 seconds and remained 0.19 seconds ahead of Gabrielle Daigneault of Hall.
In the next round, Hespeler continued her pace and completed her initial 100 yards in a time of 56.61 seconds. Daigneault skimmed down her lead to 0.08 seconds as she clocked a time of 56.69 seconds for the equivalent distance.
Meanwhile, Ledyard's athlete extended her lead to almost 1 second in the third round, where she hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 25.81 seconds. Her closest competitor, Daigneault completed her third round in a time of 1 minute and 26.63 seconds.
The fourth round of the race played a crucial role as Hespeler cemented her place for the gold spot by gaining a lead of 2.70 seconds and reported a time of 2 minutes and 24.27 seconds. Her rival completed her first half of the race by posting an effort
of 2 minutes and 26.97 seconds.
Subsequently, Hespeler continued her gruelling efforts in the next two rounds, where she almost doubled her lead and tapped the wall in a time of 3 minutes and 23.66 seconds.
She was followed by Daigneault, who remained 4.05 seconds behind her competitor and clocked a time of 3 minutes and 27.71 seconds. With her persistent efforts, Hespeler surfaced on the finishing end as the top fastest swimmer and submitted a time of 4 minutes
and 56.25 seconds for gold medal.
Her title wining efforts was trailed by Daigneault, who stayed nearly 3 second slower and reached the podium for silver medal by producing a time of 4 minutes and 59.18 seconds.
The third spot of the race was obtained by Verity Abel of Staples, who remained 5.55 seconds behind her former finisher and submitted a time of 5 minutes and 04.73 seconds for bronze medal.
Furthermore, the session ended after the completion of all scheduled events.
