Jessica Korda all set for title defence in Australia
American Jessica Korda has shown that she is capable of giving a tough time to any player and now with the start of the new LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) season, she looks more
ambitious than ever before.
Korda will begin her 2013 LPGA season by participating at the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open, scheduled for February 9-12, at Victoria, Australia. However, the biggest goal for Korda will
certainly be defending her title.
Another key tournament Korda will be gracing in Australia is the Volvik Australian Ladies Masters, set to take place from February 1 to 3 at Royal Pines. Volvik Australian Ladies Masters is
an LET (Ladies European Tour) event, and the young American will participate in it on sponsor’s invitation.
Korda joined the LPGA Tour in 2011, and has performed well in some of the tournaments. Her performance at the 2012 ISPS Handa Australian Open was nothing short of amazing as she posted an
overall score of 289 to take the first position on the leaderboard.
It remains to be seen how the 19-year-old is going to repeat her last year’s performance in the presence of giants like fellow American Stacy Lewis and Inbee Park of South Korea.
ALPG Chief Warren Sevil said while speaking to the media that Korda’s participation in both the ISPS Handa Australian Open and Volvik Australian Ladies Masters will intensify the competition,
given her recent performance.
Sevil said that the young American has improved her game quite a lot since winning her maiden trophy in February 2012 at Royal Melbourne Golf Club.
“She's a great player, good value,” Sevil said. “She had a great amateur record and a lot of people tipped her to be one of the 'goodies'”.
Sevil went on to say Korda’s hitting average has also seen a major improvement. "Jessica is just an athlete, she hits the ball long and high".
Korda displayed a fiery performance at the 2012 Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia, carding an overall score of 276 to take the 8th position on the leaderboard. She got off to a fast start
to her campaign, shooting a 68 in the first round.
The last round also saw her in best shape as she posted a 64 to further improve her position on the leaderboard.
