Jessica Long claims Women’s 100m freestyle gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Jessica Long of USA claimed gold medal of the Women’s 100m freestyle in S8 category on eighth day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Thursday, September 6.
The American swimmer met expectations of her fans in the 100m discipline as she showed her urgency towards the finishing wall for gold medal.
With her unmatchable pace, Long remained comfortably faster from her following swimmer as she tapped the wall for gold medal with a timing of 1 minute and 05.63 seconds.
Her gold claiming effort remained two and a half body length ahead of Heather Frederiksen of Great Britain, who occupied silver medal of the event by submitting a time of 1 minute and 08.07 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Maddison Elliott of Australia, who suffered a loss of only 0.30 seconds from her foregoing finisher and transpired on the finishing blockade as third best finisher by reporting a time of 1 minute and 08.37 seconds.
Elliott was trailed by Mallory Weggemann of USA, who was just 0.14 seconds slower from overpowering her preceding swimmer and hit the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 08.51 seconds for fourth position.
Weggemann was chased by Olesya Vladykina of Russia, who remained 1.99 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and finished fifth in the race by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 10.50 seconds.
Subsequently, Vladykina was traced by Morgan Bird of Canada, who stayed 0.47 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and touched the wall for sixth position with a timing of 1 minute and 10.97 seconds.
Seventh finest spot of the event was obtained by Amalie Vinther of Denmark, who stayed 0.33 seconds away from Bird and surfaced on the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 11.30 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Kateryna Istomina of Ukraine, who was 1.13 seconds apart and reported an effort of 1 minute and 12.43 seconds.
In addition, Long was extremely pleased with her victory in the freestyle event and articulated her desire of continuing the same in future.
