Jessica Long earns Women’s 100m butterfly gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Jessica Long of USA earned gold medal of Women’s 100m butterfly in S8 category on foremost day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Thursday, August 30.
Long impressed the aquatic crowd with her scintillating form in the two-lap butterfly discipline, where she not only smothered her opponents but also improved the Paralympic record.
Long stayed one body length ahead of her subsequent swimmer and appeared on the finishing blockade for gold medal by submitting a phenomenal time of 1 minute and 10.32 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Kateryna Istomina of Ukraine, who stayed 1.21 seconds apart and obtained second position of the event by touching the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 11.53 seconds.
The Ukrainian swimmer was traced by Shengnan Jiang of China, who remained nearly two seconds slower and emerged on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 13.28 seconds.
Jiang was chased by her teammate, Zhonglan Chen, who was nearly one and a half body length behind and settled on the wall as fourth fastest swimmer by clocking a time of 1 minute and 14.53 seconds.
Chen was traced by Weiyuan Lu of China, who stayed nearly half body length behind and hit the wall for fifth position of the event by posting an effort of 1 minute and 15.05 seconds.
Lu was trailed by Maddison Elliott of Australia, who remained only 0.01 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing end by submitting a time of 1 minute and 15.06 seconds for sixth position.
Elliott remained 1.82 seconds faster from Stefanie Weinberg of Germany, who ended her swim in seventh place by reporting a time of 1 minute and 16.88 seconds.
Weinberg was chased by Amanda Everlove of USA, who failed to upset any of her opponent throughout the race and posted a time of 1 minute and 18.56 seconds for eighth position.
Long received a huge round of applause from the crowd for her laudable efforts and collected her accolade at the prize ceremony of the tournament.
