Jessica Morrison excels in Women’s 200m freestyle prelims – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Jessica Morrison of Melbourne VIC excelled in the qualification rounds of Women’s 200m freestyle on fifth day of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Sunday, September 16.
The 20-year-old Morrison experienced strong resistance from her following swimmer, Kelly Stubbins of Waterlions, in the freestyle event but managed to edge her out over the finishing blockade for first position.
Morrison remained just an inch ahead of her closest competitor and clocked a wonderful time of 1 minute and 57.98 seconds for top qualifying position.
Morrison was chased by Stubbins, who stayed 0.03 seconds apart and finished second in the race by submitting an effort of 1 minute and 58.01 seconds.
The second best qualifying swimmer was followed by Angie Bainbridge of Hunter, NSW, who stayed 0.44 seconds slower from her former finisher and reported an effort of 1 minute and 58.45 seconds.
Fourth best qualifying position of the race was trailed by Amy Levings of Unattached, QLD, who suffered a loss of only 0.09 seconds and settled on the finishing end with a timing of 1 minute and 58.54 seconds.
Subsequently, Levings enjoyed an advantage of 0.12 seconds over Blair Evans of Perth City, who proved her eligibility for fifth best qualifying position of the event by touching the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 58.66 seconds.
Sixth fastest qualification spot of the event was obtained by Ellen Fullerton of Chandler, QLD, who was 0.08 seconds behind and made her way to the finishing blockade by producing a time of 1 minute and 58.74 seconds.
The 19-year-old Fullerton was traced by Megan Gianotti of Waterworx, QLD, who remained 0.16 seconds away from her preceding swimmer and touched the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 58.90 seconds for seventh place.
Gianotti was traced by Amelia Gould of SOPAC, NSW, who was only 0.10 seconds behind and posted a time of 1 minute and 59.00 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Morrison was pleased with her unmatchable form in the preliminary rounds and expressed her desire of continuing the same in the playoff.
