Jessica Shepley the only Canadian player to make the cut at Vancouver
Canadian Jessica Shepley might not have finished the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012 in grand style, but she was the only player from her country to make the cut.
Shepley was not considered to be a favourite contender for the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012, staged at the Vancouver Golf Club, but she put her best foot forward to cheer the national fans.
The Canadian star played in a roster filled with most of the top-ranked players, but she did better than expectations.
Key players who participated in the LPGA tournament included current world number one Yani Tseng, Natalie Gulbis, Lexi Thompson, Stacy Lewis, Paula Creamer, Suzann Pettersen, Brittany Lincicome, Brittany Lang,
Cristie Kerr, Karrie Webb, Azahara Munoz, Shanshan Feng, Mika Miyazato, Katie Futcher, Inbee Park, Amy Yang, Na Yeon Choi and Chella Choi.
The Canadian golfer kicked off the first round with plenty of confidence and shot a 73. In the second round, Shepley’s performance worsened as she ended up carding a 74.
Commentators said that the Canadian star looked a little under pressure on the first and second day, but she tried her best to gain some momentum in the third round.
Shepley registered a 70 on Saturday — a much better score than the first two rounds. However, she messed up again in the final round as she scored a 73.
Other players from Canada could not perform well, as the rest of them failed to make the cut. Lorie Kane, who got off to a decent start, faltered in the second round and ended up posting an unimpressive 148.
Kane was pretty happy with her performance in the first round, as she said that she tried her best to avoid bogeys and make birdies.
“That mission was very successful. I think that ‑‑ I don't have to think, I know. I'm very comfortable where I am. I've learned when I come home to play in the CN Canadian Women's Open, I want to enjoy it
and entertain and embrace the fans,” Kane said.
“A little bit of rain today maybe kept a few people away, but, hopefully, tomorrow will continue to come and make some donations to that Miracle Match”.
On the other hand, Alena Sharp also made several mistakes in the first two rounds and missed the cut after posting a 151.
