Jessicah Schipper: Double Olympic champion and Australian butterfly expert
Double Olympic gold medallist, Jessicah Schipper is without a doubt the most outstanding swimmer of Australian swimming team, who has the honour of making her country proud at every international stage.
The 25-year-old Schipper has served notice of her immaculate talent by reaching the top of podium at the multiple Olympic Games, World Championships Long Course (LC), World Championships Short Course (SC), Commonwealth Games and Pan Pacific Championships.
The Brisbane raised swimmer became the spotlight of Australian media in 2003, where she hammered her rivals in the 100m butterfly discipline and qualified for the Australian medley relay team to the world titles.
The butterfly veteran is one those few energetic swimmers, whose scintillating efforts take their team to the medal rostrum. With the stupendous efforts of Schipper, Australian 4*100m medley relay team captured bronze medal of the 2003 World Championships
in Barcelona.
Her efforts were highly recognised by the fans of Swimming Australia and ultimately, she made her way into the Australian team for the 2004 World SC Championships in Indianapolis. This time, she obtained a gold medal in the 4*100m medley relay.
Schipper’s dazzling performance in her first two world events boosted her confidence and she proved her mettle in the Australian team to the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. She smothered efforts of her competitors in the 4*100m medley relay and played a crucial
role in placing her team at the victory stand for gold medal.
With her continuous and consistent efforts, Schipper participated in the 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly and 4*100m medley relay at the 2005 World LC Championships in Montreal. She won gold medal in the 100m butterfly and 4*100m medley relay while captured
a silver medal in the 200m butterfly.
The next year was one of the most important years of her life, as the 25-year-old raked a lot of medals. At first, she competed in the 2006 Pan Pacific Championships, where she occupied gold medals of 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly while secured a bronze
medal in the 4*100m medley relay.
Then, she represented Australia at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, where for the first time Schipper competed in four events. With her smothering skills, she stunned the audience and pocketed three gold medals in the events of 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly
and 4*100m medley relay whereas she finished second in the 50m butterfly.
Her thirst for medals continued and the Queenslander proved her eligibility in the Australian team for the 2006 World SC Championships. She surpassed her rivals at the national trials in the events of 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly, 4*200m freestyle relay
and 4*100m medley relay. With her exhausting efforts at the world titles, Schipper proved her audacity for the gold medals of 200m butterfly, 4*200m freestyle and 4*100m medley relay while she settled third on the podium for 100m butterfly.
The next year, Schipper captured two gold medals in the 200m butterfly and 4*100m medley relay while she ended second in the 100m butterfly discipline at the 2007 Melbourne World Championships.
Subsequently, the Australian ensured her spot in the national team to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, where she marked the title of 4*100m medley relay along with the two bronze medals of 100m butterfly and 200m butterfly.
The following year, she raced in the same events at the 2009 Rome World Championships, where she won gold medal of the 200m butterfly and accomplished two silver medals in the events in the 100m butterfly and 4*100m medley relay.
Recently, she obtained two gold medals in the distant butterfly discipline and 4*100m medley relay at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games. Nevertheless, with the upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games, Schipper’s fans are eager to see her compete at her potentially
third Olympic Games.
