Jessicah Schipper captures Women’s 200m butterfly gold – EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships
Jessicah Schipper of Chandler captured gold medal of the Women’s 200m butterfly on fifth day of the continued 2012 EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships at the South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide on Monday, March 19.
The 25-year-old Chandler demonstrated her gruelling efforts in the four-lap butterfly discipline and stepped on the victory stand for gold medal. With her undisputed effort, she not only secured top spot on the podium but also confirmed her eligibility in
the Australian swimming team to the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The 25-year-old Schipper, who reached the final round as top contender for gold medal, maintained her position in the playoff by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 06.93 seconds.
Her gold winning effort remained almost two seconds ahead of Samantha Hamill of Kawana Waters, who occupied silver medal of the discipline by ending her sprint in a time of 2 minutes and 08.92 seconds.
The third spot of the race was secured by Amy Smith of St Peters Western Swim Club, who reached the podium with an effort of 2 minutes and 10.71 seconds.
Next was the Men’s 200m breaststroke, where Brenton Rickard defended his title and acquired gold medal of the discipline by submitting 2 minutes and 11.03 seconds.
He was chased by Jeremy Meyer of Traralgon, who emerged on the medal rostrum for silver medal by posting 2 minutes and 12.76 seconds. Nicholas Schafer snared bronze medal of the discipline as he ended his swim in 2 minutes and 12.96 seconds.
In the meantime, James Magnussen of SOPAC captured gold medal of Men’s 100m freestyle in a time of 47.10 seconds. His effort remained 0.53 seconds ahead of Somerset’s James Roberts, who secured second position with an effort of 47.63 seconds.
The second position holder was trailed by Matt Targett of Melbourne, who clocked an effort of 48.32 seconds for bronze medal.
Furthermore, the session concluded after the completion of all planned events whereas the position holders received medal and accolades for their unmatchable efforts in their respective playoffs. In addition, the championship will continue for three more
days and will end on March 22.
