Jessicah Schipper dominates Women’s 100m butterfly heats – EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships
Chandler’s Jessicah Schipper dominated the Women’s 100m butterfly preliminary rounds on day one of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships at the South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide on Thursday, March 15.
The Australian meet offers a chance to their national swimmers to qualify into the Australian squad for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The 25-year-old Schipper experienced strong resistance from Marieke Guehrer of Melbourne VIC but with her phenomenal efforts, she succeeded in capturing the top qualification spot of the event.
The 26-year-old Guehrer stunned the aquatic crowd with her quickest response to the start. She remained dominant over her challengers in the initial lap of the butterfly swim but failed to take control of Schipper’s ruthless efforts in the second half and
qualified as second finest swimmer into the semi-final.
With her invincible efforts, Guehrer sprinted her way towards the other end of the pool in a fastest time of 27.21 seconds. She was followed by Schipper, who stayed just 0.29 seconds away from her in the first half and enveloped the equivalent distance with
the timing of 27.50 seconds.
Subsequently, Alicia Coutts of Redlands became prominent for third fastest position as she ended her initial 50 metres of the swim with the timing of 27.84 seconds.
Schipper went on a rampage in the second lap, where she demonstrated her extraordinary efforts and claimed the top qualifying position by posting a time of 58.35 seconds. Her dazzling performance remained 0.68 seconds ahead of Guehrer, who transpired on
the finishing end as second best finisher with the timing of 59.03 seconds.
The 24-year-old Coutts sustained her third fastest position of the event as she was just 0.18 seconds slower from Guehrer and hit the finishing end with the timing of 59.21 seconds. The fourth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Britta Elmslie of Nudgee
Brothers as she submitted a time of 59.32 seconds to enter the semi-final.
In addition, these contestants will face each other in the next round of 100m butterfly at today’s second session, where the top eight finishers will qualify into the playoffs.
