Jessie Vargas: I want to collect a convincing win over Lanardo Tyner – Boxing news
Jessie Vargas, the young surging American pugilist who is scheduled to make his welterweight debut against Lanardo Tyner, says he wants to collect a convincing win against his Friday night opponent either by knockout or by unanimous decision to prove the
world that he is ready to create havoc in the welterweight division.
Jessie and Lanardo, both men are scheduled to headline Showtime’s weekly Friday night boxing show. The non-title bout will consist of 10-rounds and Jessie will strive hard to add another win in his undefeated winning streak.
Jessie, 22, in an interview to Fightnews.com, shared his thoughts regarding the future plans and specifically discussed the upcoming February 24, 2012 engagement. Vargas boasts an unbreakable streak of 17 wins since the inception of his career. He has nailed
nine of his total opponents by kayo and possesses a KO ratio of 52.94%.
Tyner, infamous as the ‘Pain Server’, heavily overshadows the ‘La Nueva Generacion’ (The New Generation) by his experience. Even Jessie praised Tyner by commenting, “From what I know, Tyner is a tough fighter and is a strong 147 pounder. I just think it’s
going to be a different style of fight. He is going to come to fight, there’s no doubt about it. I’m going to bring my ‘A’ game. I’ve been training really hard for this fight and I’m ready to go and win convincingly.”
When asked to comment on the recent decision of entering the welterweight division, the young man said that he was unable to retain the requisite speed, agility, and light body at 140-pound lightweight division. This made him realise that he needs to move
up and should try his luck in the welterweight division.
Jessie, who ranks eigth in WBA’s light welterweight rankings, reiterated that he has trained hard in order to take on a more experienced and aged opponent in the form of Tyner and he will try to collect an emphatic win swiftly and cleanly.
It must be kept in mind that Tyner has been in a total 33 brawls and came out victorious in 25. In addition Tyner is also the current United States Boxing Organisation’s (USBO) welterweight champion.
The 10-round brawl between the two will take place at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino situated in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States and will also consist of another light welterweight brawl between Rodolfo Armenta and Antonio Orozco.
