Jessie Vargas challenges Amir Khan for possible 2012 bout – Boxing news
The undefeated Mexican-American Light Welterweight prospect Jessie Vargas has called for a 2012 mega-fight with the currently unified World Boxing Association Super and International Boxing Federation Light Welterweight Champion, Amir Khan, after criticising
the Bolton’s finest.
The 22-year-old Vargas, who holds a perfect record of winning all of his 17 professional fights, with 7 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, ripped Khan for his bout with Marcos Maidana which was held back in December 2010.
Though Khan secured a unanimous decision over Maidana, he took some terrible beating in the 10th round which almost knocked him out.
“He was criticizing my last fight, September 17th, well, the last tough guy he fought, who was Marcos Maidana, I saw him running around the ring like a chicken,” stated Vargas. “All he was doing with Maidana was moving around and running like a girl. If
he fights me, I want him to stand there. I have a hard chin and I hit harder.”
The 24-year-old Khan, who has won 26 of his 27 professional fights, with 18 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, is on a look out for setting up a super-fight with the undefeated American legend Floyd Mayweather. Mayweather holds an incredible record
of winning all of his 42 professional fights, with 26 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout.
However, Mayweather, who is a five-division world champion and the current World Boxing Council World Welterweight Champion, wants Khan to get past Vergas because he wants Khan to prove himself first. Therefore, Vargas knows Khan will have to take him on
in order to set up a fight with Mayweather.
Vargas remarked, “I think he’s going to have a shocking surprise. Because I’ll knock him out. He’s not going to be able to fight Floyd if he gets to me.”
Khan will take on Lamont Peterson on December 10, 2011 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington but he has plans to move up to 147 pounds division to search for big fights.
