Jessie Vargas unanimously beats Lanardo Tyner in a 10-round bout – Boxing news
Showtime proudly presented its ‘Friday Night’ boxing show headlined by the main event bout between Jessie Vargas and Lanardo Tyner, in which the former nailed the latter in a 10-round skirmish.
The show was on aired on February 24, 2012 from Hard Rock Hotel & Casino situated in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Vargas, well known as ‘La Nueva Generacion’ (The New Generation), is a 22-year-old brawler who boasts a long winning streak and is in the top 10 World Boxing Association (WBA) rankings, six to be specific.
Jessie has been in a total 17 brawls and has won them all. He has collected nine of his total wins by knockout. The young American is considered one of the best welterweights and belongs to ‘Mayweather promotions’, the reason why critics believe he might
take Floyd Mayweather’s place when Floyd hangs up his gloves.
His opponent for Friday night’s welterweight division brawl was his fellow countryman Lanardo Tyner. Infamous as the ‘Pain Server’, Tyner overshadowed young Vargas with his hefty experience. Lanardo has been in a total 33 brawls and has come out victorious
in 25. He has collected 15 of his wins by knockout.
The 10-round skirmish tested resilience of both men and Vargas was the one who inflicted the maximum damage. Lanardo from the very start did not opt to grasp a knockout win might possibly because of Vargas’ impressive pugilism, counter tactics, and agile
footwork.
Jessie while commenting about the brawl revealed, “I don’t think this was my toughest or hardest fight, but it was a good fight. This was just another learning experience. I need these kinds of fights against these kinds of fighters to stay in position to
move forward.”
While recalling his game plan and specially the fourth round low blow Vargas remarked, “There were times when all I wanted to do was connect with the big shot. That low blow he got me with in the fourth round was definitely the hardest low blow I’ve ever
been hit with. I’ve never been nailed with anything like that before.”
Vargas now possesses an 18-bout win streak and Lanardo has collected his career’s seventh defeat which has further tarnished his resume to 25 wins, seven losses, and two draws in a total 34 encounters.
Jessie, after the impressive 99-91 win on all the three cards, received the prize money of $20,000 and Tyner, after collecting the third consecutive loss secured $13,500.
