Jesus Flores is ready to play as strained right hamstring is not an issue - MLB Update
Catcher Jesus Flores avoids lengthy outage from the season as reports have confirmed that his right hamstring is not troubling him. He is as fit as he was when he came to replace the Washington Nationals’ catcher Wilson Ramos, earlier in the season.
Despite being ready, the Nationals’ manager Davey Johnson on-purpose gave him rest in the last game, in the hope that he can recover completely.
Injuries have been a cause of concern for the Nationals, right from start of the season. They started the season with couple of injuries to main players and now things have gone even worse.
Wilson Ramos, the Nationals’ catcher was not only being excellent behind the plate, he was also becoming a source of hits for a weakened offence with the Nationals. With clean-up hitter Michael Morse out, he was striking homers and adding RBIs during crucial
moments of the game.
All of a sudden, he got injured and the Nationals had to turn to other options. Though, Flores was an equally reliable catcher and a hitter, an impact of Ramos’ absence had to take some time before dissipating.
Just when Flores settled down and started giving an impression that he can strengthen the Nationals’ offence, he was also reported injured. That triggered calls for replacements.
Worse part was soured-back to Carlos Maldonado, a catcher who was to assume the spot an injury by Flores left vacant. In-turn, in a panic-riddled situation, the Nationals brought Jhonatan Solano from Class AAA Syracuse.
As soon as the Nationals’ worries culminated to a level of sheer disappointment, good news in the form of Flores’ clearance sprouted up and spelled cheers across the club.
With Flores back now, the Nationals are relieved that such an important position behind the plate is not being compromised. Solano will now be called back and Flores will assume the position in upcoming games.
Only thing the Nationals will be watching out for, to what extent his focus has been derailed by right hamstring he has suffered.
The manager will wish to see him at his best. Not just he will want better defensive plays, hits he was starting to draw before his injury will also be wanted at the earliest.
