Jesus Ganuza claims first victory in 2012 Campeonato Autonomico Sub 19-NAV-Estella
Men’s Singles shuttler Jesus Ganuza performed tremendously well and registered his first victory in the group stage of Campeonato Autonomico Sub 19-NAV-Estella on January 2, 2013.
He locked horns with Alberto Leoné in a Group C match which was played in local badminton complex of Estella, Spain.
This encounter remained in full swing for 37 minutes as both contenders challenged each other in all departments of game.
They kept the audience glued to their chairs until scoreboard flashed the decisive figures of 13-21, 21-17 and 21-17.
Jesus Ganuza, who had lost two matches before this tie, took some time to end his bad patch and remained down in the opening game.
However, he showed a transformed character in the ending two games and locked the honour in a commendable manner.
On the other hand, Alberto could not capitalise his first set win and faced a woeful defeat. He started his campaign in perfect fashion and put his competitor under huge pressure immediately in the beginning of first set.
He relished full benefits of this initial lead and widened the gap before the announcement of break.
After the mid-game break, he did not lose focus at any stage and maintained a notable difference of eight points.
This deficit proved too much for Jesus Ganuza as he could not rise from the dust and surrendered after reading 13-21 score on the board.
The story was entirely different in following game as the suppressed shuttler of previous set played impeccable badminton and tipped the scale n his favour.
This time Jesus Ganuza did not repeat previous mistakes and turned his rival’s plan of a straight-set victory into dust.
He finished first half of the set with a favourable margin and then served notice of his supremacy with an overwhelming total of 21-17.
The decider became consequential as both contenders were desperately looking to pocket this final match point.
They snapped at each other’s heels and remained close on the points table until half time. Latter part of the game was full of drama as Alberto was in strong position in third quarter of the set but the Jesus Ganuza struck hard and sealed his victory with
21-17 margin.
