Jesus Montero looking for a strong season with Seattle Mariners – MLB News
Batting with an impressive .328 average with four home runs, Jesus Montero showed glimpses of his talent last season. He was also quite brilliant in his defensive game play as he took few sensational catches for New York Yankees.
However, earlier this month, Yankees’ general manager Brian Cashman traded him to Seattle Mariners for the pitcher Michael Pineda. The move came as a surprise as Montero seemed to have secured a permanent place in Yankees side.
According to sources, Cashman wants to build a team that can comprehensively win the World Series title this season. In 2011, Yankees’ pitchers struggled to execute their plan and the Yankees failed to reach the World Series. By signing deals with more pitchers,
Cashman has powered the Yankees’ line-up with the likes of Michael Pineda and C.C. Sabathia.
Although Pineda has just completed his first big league season, he showed the baseball world what he is capable of. With little more Major League Baseball experience, he could become the next ace for the Yankees.
Montero, on the other hand, will be looking to post his career best stats to change the course of his career. In an interview with a leading sports website, Montero’s new team mate Miguel Olivo praised his excellent hitting technique. He further added that
Montero will be supported by each member of the team to make him feel good.
"I talked to him a couple minutes ago and he said he'd be next to me all the time," Olivo said. "I told him he's welcome to come and I'll help him with everything I've learned in baseball. I told him, 'The days you catch, I'll be looking at you to see what
you're doing wrong. And the days you hit, maybe I'll learn something about hitting from you.' We can go back and forth."
The Biggest challenge for Montero will be stay healthy and fit for the entire season as he suffered from various forms of injuries prior to 2011. If he can perform consistently, he will have a great opportunity to earn a huge pay day at the end of 2012.
