Jesus Soto Karass strengthens win streak, grabs knockout win over Euri Gonzalez – Boxing News
Jesus Soto Karass, the former NABF welterweight champion, is finally back on the win track after grabbing an impressive fifth round technical knockout win over Euri Gonzalez, the former WBO Latino welterweight champion, in a 10-round bout held on July 7,
2012.
The duo met at The Hangar arena in Costa Mesa, California, United States, headlining the fight card organised and promoted by Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions. The showdown also witnessed Francisco Vargas take on Irving Torres in a non-title eight-round
bout while co-headlining the night.
Jesus, 29, who faced a seriously tough time from 2010 to the beginning of 2012, has now stated his journey anew towards the top ranks of the division. Soto collected five consecutive losses one of which includes even a No Contest decision.
Since then the depressed belligerent has strived hard to make a comeback on the win track and grabbed his first win, after 2 long years, on May 26, 2012 against Said El Harrak.
From the very beginning, Jesus did not allow the Dominican Euri to outclass him. Soto continuously placed pressure on Gonzalez and pummelled him every now and then with powerful jabs.
With experience facet on his side, Jesus targeted Euri’s face and softened him. Euri strived hard and to some extent stunned Soto but it was the Mexican who optimally used his experience and kept himself safe from Euri’s jabs.
With the start of the fifth round, Gonzalez who was out of gas started to get sluggish. Soto, who successfully kept his energy levels intact, immediately realised the fact and started to move in more aggressively.
Euri tried to halt his progression but was unable to do so as a big right hand banged Gonzalez’s senses out. Euri was successful in breaking the 10-count but later on he realised that it was a bad call.
As soon as Euri stood up straight, Soto moved in swiftly and connected another powerful right hand which eventually flattened the 33-year-old Dominican once and for all on the ring mat.
Later on, after winning the bout via fifth round knockout, Soto praised his opponent for possessing a powerful jab and stated, “He's fast and had a tremendous jab. I have to give him credit.”
This was Soto’s second continuous win and it proved that Jesus is evolving day by day into a powerful pugilist. Euri, on the other hand, has grabbed his second consecutive loss and needs to come up with a plan to return on the win track.
