I've been answering questions and looking at other people's answers, and I have seen where people do not believe that Jesus did not exist. I personally do not believe that he was the son of god but he was an amazing person. Even thought I am not Christian I celebrate Christmas because he was a great man who did a lot for the world.

I am just wondering why people do not believe that h exists when it is a historical fact that he was real....

  1. Other than what is in the Bible, just what specific historical facts are there?

If it is just the Bible, isn't that as much historical proof for talking donkeys?

Due to the Bible, I suspect there may have been a man that the myths were based on. That is not nearly the same as claiming Jesus is supported as a historical fact.

  2. I never say Jesus didn't exist.  I'm sure he did.  I know a Jesus personally.  It isn't a completely uncommon name.  But the Jesus from the bible was made up as were all the stories.  They were all just copied from other older religions and then rewritten for their current  times.  Watch http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/ start at around 10 minutes and you will question what you think you know.

  3. What are your sources? How do you know this?

  4. Satan is the deceiver  and he does not want any one  to know  God.  God gave  us free will to chose  so  unfortunately many  choose not to believe in him.

  5. As of yet I've heard of no definite archaeological evidence that Christ existed. As a Christian I believe he did. I'm not as heavily into archaeology as I would like to be, but I keep up with enough to know so far there isn't any (evidence). If you know of any, please share it!

  6. There have been millions who've claimed to be Jesus or God throughout the ages. The Jesus story has been around since the time of the God RA. Jesus is just the retelling of earlier myths. Sure, there have been many good teachers around the world, and I'd be happy to believe there have been many with the name Jesus, but none of these had anything to do with starting a religion.

  7. There might be evidence, but wheres the body ?

Horus, Mithras, and other anceint gods did similar miracles of what Jesus did. They had 12 disciples, died and ressurected 3 days later.

  8. I for one would be very happy to hear about the existence of this unusually saintly person.  I've studied it for more than 30 years and have found absolutely NO proof that he was a real person.

  9. There is no evidence that he existed.

I personally believe he was based off of a real person, but much different than what the Bible says.

  10. Exactly. The last sentence at least.

  11. Because of the fear of 'change'!  (By the way, Jesus IS God!)

  12. I never said that he never existed, I make that a point when I explain my beliefs to others. I just think that he was a prophet of sorts and his "miracles" are just exaggerated

  13. What proof was there that Jesus existed.

It's a historical fact, was there a photo taken of him

  14. The idea that Jesus never existed as a historical person didn't evolve until the late 1800s, and it is based upon a book which scholars have refuted.

The Bible itself is just one body of evidence of the existence of Jesus Christ.

The sudden cultural change among a large group of Jewish people who became believers is another piece of the evidence.  Whereas the Jews maintained a tight ethnic and religious community -- it is highly unlikely that suddenly thousands of them, after years of maintaining their religious and cultural identity throughout exile and enslavement, would become believers in a Messiah that did not exist as a historical person.

The Talmud mentions Jesus and his crucifixion.

There is more proof of the existence of Jesus than there is for many other historical figures.

No credible scholar denies the existence of Jesus as a historical person.  Emphasis on CREDIBLE.

Desiree -- your claim is absurd and cannot be documented.  Where are all these lists of criminals that were executed by the Romans...?  The fact is that it is illogical (as per your usual comments) to believe that there are extant records of every "criminal" the Romans executed.  So tell us, where are they?  What museum houses them?  Where can a facsimile be viewed?

And Justin-- Zeitgeist is laughable.  It is an editorial not a documentary, and the so-called documentation they provide therein is not credible.

CC -- The book of Acts was written about 62AD, and oral histories were already being circulated throughout the Roman empire before that time.

Also -- Plutarch did not write about Alexander the Great until some 400 years AFTER Alex died...yet, historians still consider his writings a valid representation of Alexander's life.  Hmmm.  Ponder that for awhile.

  15. You had just shown your ignorant.

    A. There are no credible evidences of Jesus's existence.

    B. Even if he existed, he is but a waylaid Rabbi who preaches outside the teaching of the Jews.

C.Christmas has nothing to do with Christianity, it is a holiday stolen from the Pagans by the Christians.

    D. Perhaps you can tell me what had this person done for the world.

    E. Which historical fact are you talking about? The source please.

  16. Where are your historical facts outside the bible?  Care to cite them?

  17. If he did not historically exist then why do Jews and Muslims acknowledge his historical existence?

Based on your premise why doesn't the nation of Israel immediately throw out all the tourists spots that Christians use in the Holy Land and tell us Jesus did not exist.

    Why don't they do that?

I'll tell you why they don't do that.  Because they know he did historically exist.

And the story of how it all began is in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Acts.  If you want to know how Christianity started in spite of the Roman Empire's dominance over the Jewish state of Israel and the Holy Land there it is.  It's up to you whether you believe it not.

  18. 1Cr 2:14   But people who aren't Christians can't understand these truths from God's Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them because only those who have the Spirit can understand what the Spirit means.

  19. Some people at the end of the 19th century started to doubt the existence of most religious leaders like Buddha, Jesus, Moses.

Mainly because all the information related to these figures was written by people who were into those religions. All we know of Jesus comes form the Gospels, and Christians wrote the Gospels so there is no outside reference to Jesus. Besides, many of the messages attributed to Jesus in the Gospels were not entirely new, they had been preached by different Jewish teachers.

Nowadays, that view has been abandoned by scholars and most accept the existence of Jesus. The last scholar I heard who denied the existence of Jesus was a guy called John Allegro, who wrote a book in the 70's called The cross and the sacred mushroom. In this book Allegro argued that Christianity had started as a group of people getting high on mushrooms.

There are events in history that are known to us only from one source. Like the general Hannibal crossing the Alps with his army of elephants to attack Rome, and yet most historians believe the event happened.

Besides the canonical Gospel there exists the Gnostic Gospels and there are a couple of references about Jesus by Roman  historian Tacitus and by Jewish historian Josephus. I think it is much material for someone who didn't exist

  20. unfortunately a lot of people are ignorant of the historical facts. They are not well publicised.

I'm glad you appreciate what Jesus did for this world

I pray one day you can completely comprehend what He has done and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit

  21. Atheists like to make a point of Jesus' uncertain existence because their beliefs incorporate radical skepticism. You can challenge them that fundamentally they cannot be sure of anyone's existence, except their own.

On a more mundane level, there is some scarce non-biblical evidence that Jesus did indeed exist, but that hardly validates the New Testament as a whole..

  22. Before answering your question, let me tell you something about your comment that "Jesus wasn't the son of God". Jesus was full of love and he lived with those, whom the society considered outclass. He chose very illiterate people as his disciples and he said he would build his church on them. People go after a person if he shows some extra ordinary personality. Movie stars. magicians, politicians and such kind of people attract public during their lifetime. Jesus also did it. His disciples traveled with him and witnessed whatever he did and said. But, when he was crucified, all of them ran away. They thought he is finished and he is no more. You can read in bible that they decided to go for their former profession (fishing) again after the death of Jesus. They toiled one full night, but they could not catch anything. In the morning, Jesus appeared to them. But they did not recognize him. He told them to cast the net on the right side, and it is written that they could not haul it due to weight of fish in the net. Then they realized that it was Jesus.

It is the conviction of his disciples after resurrection that he was the true son of God, compelled them to preach the word of God. It is their conviction in his resurrection, became the foundation of Christianity. They personally witnessed the resurrected Christ. If he was just another amazing man or an extra ordinary person, do you think he would have been able to resurrect from the dead? He did it and that is 100% true. Otherwise, his case would have ended with his death. You know the rest.

Now, don't marvel at people who discard him. If you believe in him, you have to obey him. When you find it hard to obey him, it is more easier to reject him. They don't realize that, Jesus is the only way for remission of sins. There isn't any other way to get remission of sins. He died for all.

  23. Your assertions that Jesus is real does not make it so.

Provide evidence to support your assertion.  I claim that there is no contemporaneous (at the time) evidence of his existence.  The earliest mention of Jesus Christ in any document dates about 4 decades after his alleged existence.  Some of that early documentation are also suspected to be forgeries.

Hence there is no real time evidence that he was real.
