  1. Cost of insurance is variable depending on where you live, where you ride, the year of the ski, and what sort of policy you want.  For example, I just get a basic, bare minimum, no-frills policy,  I ride out in the ocean, so I'm not too worried about getting in any collisions.  It costs me about $99 a year. If I chose to ride at someplace like the Colorado river, the same policy would almost double in price because the risk of getting in a collision is much higher. A full on "everything but the kitchen sink" policy  could cost me as high as $350 a year.  When I went policy shopping the best rate I found at the time was through Progressive Insurance,  they have a insurance calculator on their website that gives quotes on how much a policy will cost depending on what options you select. They can be found at http://progressive.com    A tip to help keep insurance costs to a minimum is to only carry the policy as long as you think the riding season is good for.  I live down in San Diego, and pretty much ride from late April to late November, so I cancel the policy after the eight months and get about a $30 dollar refund, thus lowering my insurance costs to $69 a year instead of the original $99.  The  next season I go on-line and pick up the policy again.  i know some people who only call and take insurance each time they go out, then cancel the policy immediately afterward, but that's fairly extreme in my opinion.

The California DMV charges $10 for a title transfer,  but my guess is it probably varies from state to state.
