Jet ski barely starts?

Bought a 2003 Waverunner last fall from a trusted relative. They used it alot, but not too much, and had no problems with it. I had it winterized but I have had a terrible time starting it. When it finally starts, it has sporadic or no get up and go. It possibly could be a rock or sand got sucked into the intake but how can I check that? Can I fix this myself? It is at my cabin and I would have to push it a long way throught the water to get it to a landing to get it on trailer if I take it to someone to fix. Also, I do not have an owners manual. Can anyone help me?

Try changing the spark plugs. if you had it fogged, the plugs may be oil saturated. Beyond that, with your skillset, take it to a tech.
