Jets’ Antonio Cromartie takes a swing at Patriots quarterback
Thank you Rex Ryan. No, this time Rex Ryan didn’t say anything but it feels appropriate that thanks be extended to New York Jets coach for kicking off a war of words that his team now appears to have latched on to.
The coach first made it personal between himself and New England Patriots Coach Bill Belichick and now his team is following in his footsteps and more.
While Ryan was at least composed and careful not say things we can’t publish here, New York’s cornerback Antonio Cromartie didn’t feel the need to hold back.
In an interview on Tuesday Cromartie blasted quarterback, Tom Brady, into outer space. The feeling is mutual so it’s all good. Brady has been heard saying that he hates the New York Jets and his antics on the field in week 13’s 45-3 win over the Jets weren’t
exactly meant to befriend his opponents.
Cromartie was asked if he had noticed Brady point towards the Jets sideline and the cornerback answered in the affirmative but didn’t stop there. “We see that a lot. He does it a lot”, Cromartie said in the interview. “That's the kind of guy he is. We really
don't give a d**n, to tell you the truth”.
For someone, who claims to not give a d**n, Cromartie really had some strong words for the quarterback. He said that Brady was ‘An... (insert expletive beginning with ‘A’, you know which one I mean)’.
Cromartie defended his evaluation of Brady with footage from games. “He's doing the pointing at our defensive line and stuff like that”, he said. “That's the kind of a guy he is. He's a competitor, he loves what he's doing. He's going to compete. When you're
competing, you are not worrying about anything else, about what anybody else is doing. You're just worried about what you have to do”.
Cromartie emphasized again how he didn’t give a d**n about Brady and explained why. “I don't have to play against him. I play against the receivers”.
When questioned about Cromartie’s comments, head coach Rex Ryan said that no one intended to disrespect Brady. “As an organization, we respect Tom Brady, there is no question about it”, Ryan said. “But you know, hey, is there dislike between us and Brady
and Brady against the Jets? Of course there is. Am I gonna punish Cromartie for saying something or whatever? No”.
Also, despite what he might say, there is no doubt that Ryan doesn’t like Brady either. Over the past couple of weeks he has been taking shots at Brady.
However, Ryan has been a lot more discrete about his feelings regarding Brady. He still has a lot of respect for Brady as a football player. In a radio interview Ryan said that to him Brady was the Most Valuable Player of the 2010 season and that he had
actually voted for him.
Ryan also said that while the Jets had respect for the Patriots, they did not fear them. “And a comment like that is just the fact that they're the enemy as we look at them this week”.
Even after Rex Ryan attempted to play down the incident, Cromartie was unapologetic and just as hostile. He said that he did not regret making those comments against Brady. “Why would I regret them?” Cromartie asked. “That's my opinion and how I feel about
it. There's no reason for me to sit back and take anything I said about him back, and I'm not. My opinion is going to be my opinion. I don't care if anybody doesn't like it”.
The Jets are going to face the Patriots on Sunday in the AFC divisional playoff. The two sides have a historic rivalry and even though Cromartie is a relatively new addition to the Jets’ side, he has already become a part of that rivalry.
