Jets’ coach Ryan calls team meeting with Revis, reps
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan has seen enough. The brash coach has called upon holdout Darrelle Revis and his agents to sit down and meet with the entire Jets organization, including players.
Ryan will cancel a practice in an attempt to settle Revis’ holdout once and for all. Ryan had heard enough when Revis’ agents Neil Schwartz and Jon Feinsod called Jets’ owner Woody Johnson and general manager Mike Tannenbaum liars. Revis’ agents had claimed Johnson was lying when he said he wasn’t invited to a meeting between Tannenbaum and the agents last week.
Ryan said it was a “blatant joke” when he heard those remarks. He has now called for Revis and his representatives to not only meet with the entire Jets’ hierarchy, but all the players as well, in order to settle the matter for good.
"This is what I would like to have happen," said Ryan, regarding his proposal. "Everybody put their cards on the table. Have Darrelle come here with anybody he wants. We'll have Mr. Johnson here ... We'll call off practice. We'll have our whole team there to meet. That way, there's no he-said, she-said. Let's work it that way. Maybe that's how we'll get a solution. Everybody wants a solution. Let's figure out a way to do it. Maybe this is the way."
Ryan is absolutely serious regarding his proposal. Schwartz responded to Ryan’s offer, saying: "If the Jets want to set up a meeting, they know how to reach me." Schwartz did not say whether he would agree to a meeting if the Jets followed through with the plan.
Johnson had gone on record saying that he wasn’t optimistic a deal would get done anytime soon. The organization rejected an offer made by Revis’ agents last week as Johnson said no progress has been made toward reaching a new deal.
It will be very interesting to see how the meeting goes and you have to wonder if the meeting with the entire organization can’t solve anything, what does that say about Revis’ future in New York?
