Question:

Jetski docking?

Hey guys, I want to buy a jetski but I do not want to haul it four hours to the ocean's bay where I would like to ride it (salt water) on the weekends.

My question is, can I rent a docking area and just leave the jetski there for the summer? How much is that? Is that safe? Couldn't someone steal it?

Then in the winter months, I'd haul it to my hometown.

  1. New jet skis (PWC, Personal Water Craft) have programmed "keys" that only allow usage with the PWC it is assigned.  It is never a good idea to leave in or around "salt water" for extended periods without "hosing" with fresh water.  Some independent dealers offer a "coating" to better protect the bottom.  I would never leave my PWC unsecured, find some place you can take and leave with security.

MOST IMPORTANT is your engine and exhaust.  In or around "salt water" will destroy the metal in a short time.  SeaDoo is the ONLY manufacturer with "salt water" ready components from the factory.  Yamaha offers a "stainless steel" conversion for an additional $650.

Your trailer in "salt water" is important as well.  Most dealers offer black or no paint (just silver metal).  Get the non-painted.  Immediately after trailer has been in "salt" wash with fresh water.  Periodically check "grease seals" on wheels because "salt water" will "eat these up".

Good Luck, PWC's are great fun.

  2. Many marinas have an area set aside for skis so you would have to ask. My marina lets us keep the ski on the trailer in the area where the boats are stored over the winter. All I do is launch it when redy to use it and then haul it out when I am done. I also get to wash it down and flush it out when I am done with it.
