Question:

Jetta and Civic?

I'm about to turn sixteen, and we are looking to buy my first car. I've test drove both, and I prefer the jetta. The honda was very jumpy and did seem to handle very well. Is it just me since I've never driven a civic, or will it always do this? The ride of the jetta was fantastic. I need pros/cons for each. Any personal experiences? I'm looking for something that has lots of safety, good gas mileage, ample room so everyone is not squished, and a nice looking exterior/interior. My vote is for the jetta, I've had my heart set on it for a long time. But how does it compare?

  1. They are both great cars ( I have a Passat).  It's a simple matter of what you'd prefer.  Factor this in:  Which car is easier to own?  Does the Jetta require premium fuel? Does the Civic have as much room?  What driver's seat is more comfy?

If it were me, I'd go for the Jetta. Based on my VW ownership expereince, VW's are extremely well built cars. The Jetta will probably have excellent ergonomics (how the car fits the body) and be reliable for a long time to come. This isn't to say the Honda isn't great.  I've just never owned one.

  2. I own the Audi A4 (same engine and tranny and platform as VW passat) and the Honda Civic.

The VW / Audi are nice car to drive.  But when it come down to maintenance it is very expensive.  It uses Premium gas.

The Civic is a regular car design for the people of average income.  The cost of maintenance is very affordable.  it also uses regular gas.

    Good Luck...

P.S.  I would buy a Civic again.  I would NOT buy the Audi again.

  3. i have a Jetta, and i love it.

While my friend has a civic and she loves it.

Of course, the honda's handling will never be as good as the VW"s but thats just because of the different levels of torque and techonolgy built into them.

I chose my Jetta over the civic because it had saved my life in an accident before, and no volkswagen has ever broken down on me. But i have to admit, the VW service fees are a bit high for an economical car, 80 dollars for oil changes? i could pass on that, but its worth it.

The honda is pretty safe, but when you drive it, i just don't feel the safety in it. The handling is loose, it has body roll, and it is a bit jumpy as you say.

I think you should go for the Jetta, it saved my life, and it'll save yours too

  4. Both cars are not very reliable. But the VW is the best of the two. All the Honda lovers will disagree. But your test drive proved the difference. Weather it requires premium fuel is not really that important. It's the fact it's a much better driving car.
