It depends on the appraiser.  Some charge a % of the value of the items appraised, some charge per hour (one I know charges $95 per hour), some charge a flat fee per item (probably $50+).  You would have to ask them before they appraise your items so you do not have sticker shock when you get the appraisal bill.

You should get a free appraisal from the place you purchased the item from but be careful, if it is a lot more than you paid, it is overinflated to make you think you got a good deal.  

If you schedule the item on your insurance, they only pay UP TO the appraised amount, if they can repair or replace for less they will.
