I was watching AFV (America's funniest home videos) for reasons I still don't understand, and I was just wondering, what does the breaking of the glass symbolize? Does Mazzutuff mean congrats? Sorry for my spelling, not sure how to type it. Thanks, no google or idk please.

  1. Mazel Tov= Good luck (mazel= luck, Tov= good).  We use it in place of congratulations.

Breaking the glass is due to our mourning the destruction of the temple.  It is a reminder that our joy cannot be complete until the Temple is rebuilt and the Temple service is re-instituted.  It has nothing to do with marriage, its fragility or otherwise.

  2. idk try google

    lol

  3. "Mazel Tov" means "Good Luck".

Breaking of the glass symbolizes many things.  It symbolizes the destruction of the Temple in ancient times.  It also symbolizes the fragility of marriage.  Some people believe the sound can either scare away evil spirits or serve as an "announcement" to begin the festivities!

  4. I'm not jewish but my boyfriend is and yes it means congrats! =] lol

  5. Mazel tov means congrats!

The breaking of the glass symbolizes that the marriage ceremony is complete and irrevocable.  Once the glass is broken, it can never be put back together.  Most rabbis make a nice comment saying that just like it is impossible to put the glass back together, it is also impossible for the couple to part.  It also has to do with the sadness that occurred in Israel when the Temple was destroyed (As to always remember the holy land).
