I went though a rigorous DNA/Genetics test and i used that info and matched that with family info and found that i had Russian family. Not only that but they were Jewish. They came to the united states in 1900s and my family knew about this. I am wondering if i am jewish because i want to become a religious jew but i just wanted to know if i am jewish already from my great grandparents on my maternal side.

  1. Were any of your Mom's parents Jewish? It is considered to be passed through the mothers' side, since we can prove who our Mom is. BTW? Welcome to the family; lol!

  2. In terms of whether or not you have enough info to be considered as Jewish, your best bet would be to go to your LOR (local Orthodox rabbi) and ask him.  Even if you are, it sounds like you would benefit from a program of study on Judaism anyway.  If you don't live near an Orthodox synagogue, the Orthodox Union's website (ou.org) should be able to provide you with one which is relatively close to you and you might be able to start by corresponding with the rabbi.

Good luck and welcome to the tribe!

  3. Congrats you are a jew

  4. If you want to become religous it doesn't matter whether its in your bloodline or not, congrats.

  5. If your mother's mother was Jewish, your mother is Jewish, and so are you.

If your mother's father was Jewish, then she and you are not Jewish.

  6. Make sure your birth mother was really Jewish, check about her mother too just to be sure.

If she was Jewish then so are you.

    Welcome to the family! :)
