  1. Yes, it is also a type of race/ethnicity

  2. My brother (our Mother was born Jewish but our Father was not) asked the same question of a rabbi. He was told "you are Jewish if you want to be".

To be a practicing Jew you would have to undertake Bar Mitzvahs, circumcision, etc....  circumcision as an adult is not to be undertaken lightly. There can be serious complications.

The question, would you be considered a Jew, is probably only relevant if you consider that you may be persecuted or discriminated against because of your genetic origin.

In the event that you are in a society that does not tolerate Jews then you may be at risk. The n***s for example sent "half Jews" to the death camps.

There are many orthodox Jews who object to Jews "marrying out" who may consider that you are not Jewish.

  3. You mean, your mother was Jewish?  Then yes, you are considered Jewish provided you haven't embraced Christianity, in which case you're an apostate and would have to go through at least a partial conversion to be considered a full member of the Jewish community.
