Jezki to make it four from four over hurdles - Leopardstown’s Paddy Power Future Champions Novice Hurdle (Grade 1)
Having won Fairyhouse’s Grade One early in December, Jezki is flushed with pride. His ability to show great progress is commendable. According to some experts, Leopardstown’s soft ground is a huge concern, but we have an entirely different take on this.
The 4-year-old is good enough to adapt to the conditions. The left-handed venue is likely to suit him and therefore, one can easily expect him to make it four from four over hurdles by winning the Grade 1 Paddy Power Future Champions Novice Hurdle on Thursday, December 27th.
Jezki started his career with a huge bang, winning two Flat races earlier this year. After a couple of great wins, the bay gelding suddenly lost his momentum, and faced an awful loss at Cheltenham in March. The Mrs John Harrington-trained didn’t look impressive on his seasonal comeback in October, when finishing fifth behind Glam Gerry at Navan.
The son of Milan put his journey back on the right ways at the end of October, when making hurdle debut on a winning note. He registered his first graded win last month, when he crushed the rivals in the Grade 3 Fishery Lane Hurdle.
Continuing his ruthless march in this sphere, the dashing horse won the Grade 1 Bar One Racing Royal Bond Novice Hurdle at the start of this month. By defeating Willie Mullins’ 11-8 favourite, Champagne Fever, he collected plenty of praise.
The recent Grade One success must have boosted up his confidence to a great deal. The Gerard M. McGrath-bred is expected to keep his unbeaten record intact over hurdles, and display a fascinating show today. A line-up of eight dangerous horses is waiting for him on the 2-mile long track. The action will be begun at 14:00 GMT.
Today’s big meeting is an acid test of Waaheb’s abilities. The 5-year-old won his sole hurdle race in great style in October. It is unsure whether D. K. Weld’s potentially exciting contender will be able to handle the pressure at this level. Sizing Rio is another fascinating contestant. Henry De Bromhead’s charge was Grade 3 winner last time, and his stable is in good form these days.
