Jhonattan Vegas to make debut at Players Championship
Jhonattan Vegas is looking forward for his debut appearance at the Players Championship and is eager to test his resilience on the Tournament Player Club (TPC) Sawgrass.
The Professional Golf Association (PGA) Tour rookie spoke to the press about his fears and expectations before the Players Championship, which is the fifth flagship event on the tour. He said that he was excited to be a part of the
tournament, which will see the top guns battling for the title.
Vegas said while speaking to reporters, “It’s been pretty overwhelming to be honest. There is so much that I had to deal with that I wasn’t prepared for at all, but it’s been great. That’s part of being on the PGA TOUR, going through
that learning process.”
The Venezuelan started the season splendidly. He finished in Top 20 in four of the six events, which included a victory at the Bob Hope Classic and a Top 3 finish in the Farmers Insurance Open. Lately however, the player has not been
enjoying the best of forms but despite that, he was heard claiming that he was ready to siege the throne, currently owned by Tim Clark.
Vegas also seems to like the course, on which he showed up for practice on Tuesday. The rookie went up and down the fairways of the par-72 course to test his prowess.
After the session, Vegas claimed, “I feel really comfortable playing this course, and hopefully I’ll have a good week.”
The practice session was not the first visit of the player to the course. Vegas has been to the Stadium course in the past. The Venezuelan was part of the Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open on the Nationwide Tour, which was held at the
same course, but unfortunately, he missed the cut in it.
Expected to meet top players from across the globe at the event, the player revealed that he felt at ease after meeting the top guns of golf in the Farmer Insurance Open. He said that he had come over the nerves of playing alongside
names like Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.
Earlier, this factor was a huge hurdle in his path to perform to the fullest, but since the time he was paired next to Woods in the third round at Torrey Pines, he started feeling a lot more relaxed.
Vegas also spoke about his meeting with Woods, “That was a great experience playing with Tiger.”
