Jhonny Gonzalez: I am undergoing a special training session for bout with Elio Rojas – Boxing news
Jhonny Gonzalez, the current World Boxing Council (WBC) featherweight champion who is scheduled to defend his gold against Elio Rojas the former WBC featherweight champion, recently shared his thoughts about the engagement and said that he is undergoing
a special sparring session for his upcoming bout and is following a strenuous training schedule.
Gonzalez and Elio are scheduled to take on each other in a 12-round championship bout which will most probably take place on April 14, 2012 but at the moment the date and even the venue of the event is not confirmed.
According to the tidings, the event might be postponed to April 28, 2012 if the ring is to be stretched at Palacio de Los Deportes situated in Mexico City, Mexico. Jhonny, under the auspicious and experienced wings of Nacho Beristain, is undergoing a high
altitude training session in the mountains of Nevado de Toluca.
Gonzalez, 30, has been in a total 58 bouts and came out victorious in 51. He has collected a whopping 45 wins by knockout and is ranked number three in the world rankings. Also known as the ‘Bombardero’, Jhonny is considered as one of the elite featherweights
in the division.
The orthodox Mexican snatched the featherweight gold from Hozumi Hasegawa and since then has successfully defended it against Tomas Villa, Rogers Mtagwa, and Roinet Caballero. His opponent for the Saturday night event Elio is also a former featherweight
and though lies at 19th rank in the world rankings yet has a pretty impressive resume.
The Dominican proud has been in a total 24 bouts and came out victorious in 23. He has lost just one bout to Gamaliel Diaz and has collected 14 of his total wins by KO. Elio lacks clearly in knockout ability and above all experience even then Jhonny is undergoing
a strenuous timetable to strengthen his speed and power.
During the short interview, the Mexican proud commented, “I’m training with some changes for this fight. Besides being a great experience, coming here to Nevado is a great workout….I’m happy to fight against the Dominican champion Elio Rojas and this will
be a great night for Mexican boxing and boxing world.”
Elio needs to come up with a somewhat unique brawling plan otherwise he might be the 46th opponent who gets knocked out by the hefty raw powered jabs of the Mexican Bombardero. The event will also witness Victor Terrazas defend his WBC Silver super bantamweight
gold against Genaro Garcia.
