Jhunriel Ramonal knocked out by Alejandro Sanabria – Boxing news
WBC silver lightweight champion Alejandro Sanabria successfully knocked out Filipino challenger Jhunriel Ramonal in the 4th round yesterday in Chihuahua, Mexico.
It should be noted here that this was the very first title defence of the Mexican champion Sanabria.
Controversy surrounded the results as soon as the referee Rocky Burke counted out Ramonal who was knocked out by the gigantic WBC champion.
Sanabria, who had won the vacant Silver title by knocking out Vinvin Rufino in the 5th round on December 3, 2011, was considered a misfit for the fight, since his weight crossed the required. Some days before the fight, The Manila Standard showed its reservations
for the weight difference to Aquil Tamano, Games and Amusements Board commissioner.
According to them, Sanabria is a lightweight weighing 135 pounds whereas Ramonal is a super bantamweight weighing 131 pounds.
Sanabria had won the vacant WBC Continental Americas super featherweight title by defeating Rocky Juarez by a 12-round decision.
On the other hand, his opponent Ramonal defeated Rnel Suco through a 12-round unanimous decision to bag the Philippine super bantamweight title.
When asked about the weight difference, the commissioner Tamano asserted, “Problem is Ramonal is the current Philippine bantamweight champion and in his last fight in Japan he lost by split decision in an OPBF title fight.”
Most analysts and former fighters are of the view that this fight was not meant to happen if regulations were followed precisely. The weight difference was enough to give Sanabria the upper hand and so it happened.
However, the confident Ramonal and his side went on to clash with the current WBC silver lightweight champion. What happened was something that was already expected. Sanabria capitalised on the opportunity and brutally beat his opponent to knock him out
easily in the 4th round.
During the fight, it was pretty obvious that the WBC title-holder used his force and body power to overtake his opponent, and, since he was the heavier one, he was able to do it just right.
After the defeat, Ramonal’s side was a bit shocked whereas Sanabria smirked and walked away with the victory.
