Ji Sung Nam surprises Alexander Kudryavtsev in the first round – Seoul Challenger 2012 CH
Ranked 259th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Alexander Kudryavtsev, received straight sets upset, 3-6, 2-6, in the first round of the Samsung Securities Cup Challenger 2012 held at the hard courts
of Deco Turf, Korea. The local challenger, Ji Sung Nam, summed up his victory in nearly 55 minutes.
The 42-year-old, Nam commenced a remarkable start to the opening set and drew the first blood without facing any difficulty. He cashed his opponent’s serve in the fourth game and crumpled his morale since the very start. After
that point, both players preserved their serves, flaunting their superior run of form in front of one another. The Korean participant reeled off all the remaining games and dusted away his rival to attain a 6-3 score line.
The 6 ft Russian contender had 61 percent initial serve, pocketing away 12 of 17 first and four of 11 second delivery points. The Korean native manifested 56 percent initial serve rate with a remarkable score of 12 of 14 first
and eight of 11 second serve points.
In the second set, the 26-year-old Russian was unable to retain his initial serve and the Korean senior jumped forward to strike breakthroughs in the first and third games accordingly. He secured the first four games and marked
a 4-0 lead. Kudryavtsev proved to be of no match to his challenger and merely bagged away two games in total. Eventually, contesting with a high pace the Korean senior took advantage of his home ground and pocketed away all games one after the other. He congratulated
himself when he secured the final win and terminated the match with a 6-2 score.
The Russian right-hander had a relatively better first serve of 50 percent, converting eight of 12 first and three of second delivery points. He was unable to attain not even one of two serve breaks and his opponent won two of
four. The local attained 42 percent initial serve with eight of 10 first and nine of 14 second serve points.
For the next round, Nam will battle against the winner of the match between the Indian Yuki Bhambri and Dmitry Tursunov
