Jia-Jing Lu cripples Yumi Miyazaki to enter semis – Sportama International Tennis Tournament 2012
Chinese starlet, Jia-Jing Lu, stomped over the fifth seed, Yumi Miyazaki, with a bagel at the Sportama International Tennis Tournament 2012 on Friday. She penned down a 6-0, 6-1 victory against the Japanese to cruise into the final four at this outdoor hard
court tournament taking place from 3rd to 9th December in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The top seed, Lu showed her true colours after stepping into the Indonesian courts. She barely sweated to formulate a straight set victory against the 26-year-old to progress into the semi-finals at this ITF (International Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit
event.
Lu made a strong entry at the Gelora Bung Karno Tennis Stadium. She hammered powerful forehands from her arsenal of skills and wiped out all six games in a row. The Chinese was never threatened with any barrier and converted all three break chances to her
advantage to prevail.
Ranked 316th in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Lu kept momentum rolling in the following set. After the lower seed held her serve in the second game, Lu re-kindled her spark and went on a five-game tear. She blocked the
only breakpoint she came across and cashed three out of five break opportunities to inch towards glory.
The 23-year-old is in good run of form this circuit. She recently captured her maiden career title at the Tarakan ITF event after rallying past third seed Nudnida Luangnam in three sets. The Chinese seed then secured quarter-final berths at the Lagos ITF
twice in October.
Next up for Lu is the third seed, Yuka Higuchi, who outsmarted the local challenger, Lavinia Tananta, in straight sets to progress. The seventh seeded Indonesian dropped her serve twice but capitalised on four out of seven break chances to formulate a 6-3,
7-5 score line.
The second seed, Ayu-Fani Damayanti, will join Lu in the final four. She nudged up a straight set victory against the Japanese contender, Yumi Nakano, to reach this place. The local seed lost her serve once but broke her opponent’s serve five times, eventually
recording a 6-2, 6-2 score line in almost one hour and 15 minutes.
