Jiang Huajun in the final of 2011 Asia Cup – Table Tennis Update
Jiang Huajun of Hong Kong played exceptionally well as she defeated the Chinese player Guo Yue in a game that prolonged for five sets at the 2011 Asia Cup. Yue was playing with the home advantage as she won the first set but could not continue as she lost
three sets in a game of five.
A splendid performance by Huajun earned her a place in the final of the 2011 Asian Cup. Defeating a Chinese player in her home town is never an easy task and the player from Hong Kong has done well by maintaining her dominance in the game.
Guo was looking quick and sharp in the first set but she did not have any answers to Jiang’s forehand top spin as she bounced back in the game by winning the second set. The Chinese player was one game down after the end of three games as scores were: 5-11,
11-6 and 11-6.
Guo was keen to win the fourth set as she called the “Time Out” while she was leading the game 9-8 which helped Jiang as she scored the next two points. Guo was down one point while the scores were 9-10 as Jiang continued her dominance and won the set 12-10.
She lost the last set 11-9 but won the best of five by winning the second, third and fourth set (5-11, 11-6, 11-6, 12-10 and 11-9). Her winning performance at Changsha stunned the home crowd as their local star Guo Yue had to settle for no more than a bronze
medal in her match against Tie Yana.
Currently ranked second at the ITTF World Ranking, Ma Long had a tough encounter with Singapore’s Gao Ning who is currently at 16th position in the ITTF World Ranking with 2301 points. Ning is a lot better player than his record suggests, as he
has a tendency of clicking at high pressure games.
Ning played a wonderful knock for victory against the World’s top player which was not easy. After a long fight for six sets, Ma Long finally managed to win the game with the following scores: 11-2, 10-12, 10-12, 11-6, 11-6, and 11-5.
A tough day for the Chinese players but not for Xu Xin as the World Number 9 prevailed to the next round by defeating Kaii Yoshida of Japan in four straight sets 11-7, 11-8, 11-5 and 11-6.
