Jiao Liuyang breaks Olympic record of Women’s 200m butterfly – 2012 London Olympic Games
Jiao Liuyang of China broke the world record of the Women’s 200m butterfly on fifth day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Olympic Games in London Aquatics Centre on Wednesday, August 1.
Liuyang dictated terms to her opponents in the distant butterfly event and sprinted her way towards the finishing wall for gold medal. She continued her smothering efforts in the 200m discipline and occupied the podium for top position.
With her astonishing efforts, she remained one and a half body length faster from her following swimmer and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 04.86 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Mireia Belmonte Garcia of Spain, who was 1.39 seconds apart and ended her sprint in a time of 2 minutes and 05.25 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Natsumi Hoshi of Japan, who stayed 0.23 seconds apart and touched the finishing end for bronze medal by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 05.48 seconds.
Similarly, Hoshi was chased by Kathleen Hersey of USA, who was only 0.30 seconds slower from overpowering her former finisher and touched the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 05.78 seconds.
Hersey was chased by Cammile Adams of USA, who remained exactly one second behind and ended her race in fifth place with an effort of 2 minutes and 06.78 seconds.
Adams was trailed by Jemma Lowe of Great Britain, who was only 0.02 seconds slower from her former finisher and secured sixth finest spot of the event by producing a time of 2 minutes and 06.80 seconds.
Subsequently, the British swimmer was followed by Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who stayed 0.53 seconds slower and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 07.33 seconds for seventh position.
Eighth position of the race was chased by Liu Zige of China, who stayed 0.44 seconds slower and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 07.77 seconds.
In addition, Liuyang was happy with her achievement in the 200m event and said that she would try harder to defend her title in future.
