Jiao Liuyang of China secured the title of Women’s 200m butterfly meet by overpowering her fellow swimmers in the final round on day five of the Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA) scheduled 2011 World Championships on Thursday, July 28, in Shanghai,
China.

on the podium. The gold medallist was nearly four seconds away from the world record of 2 minutes and 01.81 seconds, set by Liu at the 2009 Rome World Championships.
She was followed by Ellen Gandy of Great Britain, who remained only 0.04 seconds behind her and reported in a time of 2 minutes and 05.59 seconds. Gandy remained 0.31 seconds away from the world record holder, who occupied the podium for the bronze medal,
by reporting in a time of 2 minutes and 05.90 seconds.
The fourth best spot of the swim was secured by Natsumi Hoshi of Japan, who missed the bronze medallist with just 0.01 seconds and ranked fourth on the overall rankings list. Stephanie Rice of Australia claimed fifth fastest spot of the swim, as she stayed
0.17 seconds behind her foregoing competitor and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 06.08 seconds. Rice was 0.27 seconds ahead of her subsequent swimmer, Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who earned sixth position in a time of 2 minutes and 06.35 seconds.
The arena then witnessed a stunning effort from Great Britain’s Jemma Lowe and Australia’s Jessicah Schipper, who involved each other in a neck-to-neck race for the seventh position. Both swimmers failed to overcome each other and emerged on the finishing
wall in a same time of 2 minutes and 06.64 seconds.
Liuyang expressed happiness on her wonderful victory, whereas, the Chinese champion has claimed that she will keep working hard to dominate the 200m butterfly meet in future events.
