Jiayuan Chen ensures her presence in Women’s Singles quarter-finals – Korea Open Update
Singapore’s Jiayuan Chen played impeccable badminton and outclassed Yeni Asmarani in the second round of Korea Grand Prix Gold to qualify for the Women’s Singles quarter-finals on December 6, 2012.
She took just 30 minutes to seal a splendid straight-set win with an impressive result of 21-16 and 21-11.
This short-lived battle was staged at the local badminton arena of Hwasun-gun, Korea and the victorious shuttler earned great deal of admiration for a breath-taking show of skills.
Jiayuan, who holds seventh spot in this tournament ranking, relished full benefits of this supremacy and kept her rival at lower end in most part of the encounter.
The Singaporean female campaigner did not waste time and established a strong grip immediately in the beginning of first set.
She unleashed a series of power packed strokes and pushed her competitor on the back foot. This aggressive approach yielded good result as Yeni could not come out of her challenger’s influence until the final moments.
Jiayuan strengthened her grip by clinching few consecutive points and placed a mountainous figure of 11 before the interval.
After the mid-game break, she showed consistency in her performance and ruled the court without any major trouble.
Though, the Indonesian player bagged some valuable points in a row but she failed to go with same flow in third quarter of the set.
Jiayuan struck hard when it mattered and tipped the scale in her favour with a staggering knock of 21-16.
Yeni Asmarani proved sitting duck also in the following game as her opponent hunt her down with great ease.
Things became worse when she made fatal mistakes straight away in the beginning and allowed Jiayuan to proceed on the points table.
The Singaporean shuttler made best out of this situation and established an unassailable lead in no time. She widened the gap by adding some successive points in her total and finished first half of the set with a decent margin.
Latter part of the game was also dominated by Jiayuan as she played flawless badminton and registered a winning figure of 21-11.
However, real challenge awaits her in the quarter-finals where the World Number eight Sung Ji Hyun is all set to take on her.
