Jie Gong wins Women’s 200m butterfly title: 2011 FINA World Cup, Moscow
China’s young athlete, Jie Gong mesmerised Moscow’s crowd due to her scintillating splash on day two of the 2011 FINA World Cup series in Russia, on Wednesday, October 19. The session of the meet conducted the Women’s 200m butterfly final.
Gong got off to a strong start and beat her rivals, Korea’s Ra Choi Hye and United States’ Andrea Kropp by thrashing the finishing wall in a stunning time of 2 minutes and 04.32 seconds to win the Women’s 200m butterfly title.
In the meantime, Hye earned silver medal on the podium by posting a time of 2 minutes and 06.23 seconds and Kropp claimed bronze title in the respective meet with a mark of 2 minutes and 09.71 seconds. Moreover, Anastasia Lyazeva of Russia produced a matchless
swim over her rivals and wound up fourth after she ended her swim to post a time of 2 minutes and 12.34 seconds.
Anastasia Lyazeva’s compatriot, Anna Kiseleva picked fifth positing by hitting the finishing wall in a time of 2 minutes and 15.99 seconds, whereas, Anna Kiseleva’s fellow citizen earned sixth place honours by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 17.78 seconds.
Irina Bespalova of Russia got seventh posting by hitting the finishing wall in a time of 2 minutes and 18.43 seconds.
Last, but not the least, the eighth position went to Daria Tcvetkova of Russia after she touched the finishing wall in the respective meet and ended her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 18.71 seconds. The remarkable efforts of swimmers including Jie Gong,
Ra Choi Hye and Andrea Kropp impressed the arena, while the toppers were honoured with medals and cash prizes after the session’s completion.
The 2011 FINA World Cup series is a vital series for all young guns and senior level athletes of United States, Russia, Australia, China and Japan, as it will help them to prepare for next year’s Olympics event, in London. Meanwhile, Germany is set to host
the fourth round of the seven stop world series in Berlin, from October 22-23.
