Jie Zheng is now practicing for doubles and London Olympics – Tennis News
Chinese booming superstar, Jie Zheng, started the year at a high note but then faced a miserable slump in her form and couldn’t repeat the heroics of the last year resistance she provided at the pitch. It is probably the reason,
she have shifted her focus to doubles and Olympics.
She stated, “Although I lost in the singles, it won't affect my mood in the doubles." She fell at the hands of the Canadian contender, Aleksandra Wozniak. She further added, “I have competed in both the singles and doubles for
a long time, so I'm good at adjusting myself in such cases." It will be a tough task for her to make a name for herself in the doubles category because there are some cracking doubles specialists that have already created a stronghold but nothing is impossible
and it’s all about staying focused on the goal.
She will team up with the 34th ranked compatriot, Shuai Zheng, in the London Olympics, later this year. So, both the players are practicing together to create an impact in Wimbledon. However, Peng is suffering from a
wrist injury so that might be a great hurdle in her way. She mentioned, “I just learnt of it (the injury) after the first-round match (at French Open), so I was really surprised. For the Olympics, we all have our own goals, but I don't want to unveil as it
would put pressure on both of us. The London Olympics is my last Olympic Games, so I will cherish it very much."
She has learned a lot in her 10 year career wants to utilize her experience in adjusting to this new schedule of training. She has always battled at her best and never surrendered unless it’s all over. She hopes that she will receive
her payback for all the hard work. However, the competition is already very tough in doubles but when there’s a will there’s a way.
The problem that she faced against Wozniak in the French was confessed by her in following words, “There is a gap between my serving ability with her's. She served very well and I was in passive. The pain of my heel made me impatient
as well.”
It is good to see some Asians stepping up and proving their worth at an elite platform. Tennis is not a famous game in this continent. Cricket is the predominated sport so battling hard in hostile conditions and making it to the
top slot is an achievement. Zheng and her partner will definitely be awarded for their non-stop efforts.
