Jie Zheng seeks inspiration from Li Na – Tennis News
Jie Zheng is on the road to her first Grand Slam title of her career, the Australian Open. She flabbergasted everyone with another cracking triumph over the world number eight, Marion Bartoli. She is inspired from the Chinese number
one, Li Na and accepts that Li is the one who stimulated her to improve and prove it to the world that she can stun everyone.
She is unbeaten this season, starting her professional circuit in Auckland at the ASB Classic tournament. She won that tournament defeating the fourth seed, Flavia Pennetta. It was a stunning result for everyone around the globe,
as this lady entered the tournament as an underdog and ruled the show. With immense faith in her capabilities, she entered the year’s first Grand Slam tournament, the Australian Open and remains unbeaten; she prepares herself to face-off the Italian contestant
Sara Errani.
Talking to the media representative, she said, “I think Li Na winning a grand slam was big news in China. And also she (was) in the final last year of the Australian Open. It's so good. A few years ago we never thought we could
win a singles grand slam. Yeah, I think it also gave me more confidence."
Zheng was ecstatic at her outstanding performance in the Grand Slam tournament and her opponents are also praising her performances. Martion Bartoli lost to her on Saturday in the third round encounter which was a massive upset.
In a post match press conference, Bartoli said, “It's a bit like Li Na. They (Chinese players) like playing here. She plays a game of risks, so she needs confidence and she gets it when she wins lots of matches in a row. She's playing very, very well at the
moment."
She has suddenly emerged as a very strong contender for the Australian Open title along with some big names like former world number ones, Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova. Along with these two strong contestants, Ana Ivanovic
and Petra Kvitova are also performing extremely well. Defending champion, Kim Clijsters, stays the hot favourite to win the tournament but all these players are capable of dethroning the Belgian and winning the Slam title for themselves.
Zheng has a relatively easy draw in the fourth round compared to the rest of the contestants and it seems like her lucky charm is in action. She is definitely a very strong contender for the title at Melbourne and Chinese fans
will be praying that her purple patch don’t end any time soon.
