Jill Craybas ousts Nina Bratchikova to reach round two – Nurnberger Gastein Ladies 2012
American contestant, Jill Craybas, dumped Russia’s Nina Bratchikova in straight sets at the Nurnberger Gastein Ladies 2012 on Wednesday. She clobbered a 7-5, 6-3 victory against the 26-year-old to book a spot in the round of 16 at this WTA (Women’s Tennis
Association) red clay court tournament taking place in Bad Gastein, Austria.
The American veteran brought her experience into handy and trashed Bratchikova in their first encounter. After earning this fame in one hour and 41 minutes, Craybas not only edged in the head-to-head series by 1-0 against the world number 88 but also progressed
into the second round.
The 37-year-old made a drastic start at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) International tournament and suffered the first blow in the opening game to go 0-2 down. However, she made a stunning reply and wiped out the following four games in a row, eventually
taking a 4-2 lead. Despite losing her serve in the seventh game, the American stayed focused and held her remaining serves with poise. She got the breakthrough in the last game and clicked the opener with a 7-5 win.
Ranked 145th in the WTA Premier Rankings, Craybas lost her opening serve again in the proceeding set but quickly counterattacked in the very next game. She exchanged another serve break and then held her remaining serves with conviction. The American
cashed in her third break chance in the eighth game and eventually sealed the set with a 6-3 success.
Next up for Craybas is eighth seeded Johanna Larsson who triumphed over the Slovakian qualifier, Jana Cepelova, in straight sets to advance.
Chichi Scholl will accompany her compatriot in the second round. She slew the Czech contender, Zuzana Ondraskova, with a bagel in one hour and 26 minutes.
"I think I was one of the lucky girls because I was on court first," Scholl commented in a courtside interview. "With my qualifying matches as well, I finished them both Sunday, so I didn't have to wait too long. Then today I waited a couple hours, got on
court and finished the match. Obviously, I'm pretty excited to get my first win."
Next challenge for the American qualifier is sixth seeded Irina-Camelia Begu.
