Jill Craybas outclasses Akgul Amanmuradova in round one – Family Circle Cup 2012
American veteran, Jill Craybas, ousted the 118th ranked Uzbek, Akgul Amanmuradova, in the opening round clash of the Family Circle Cup on Tuesday. She grabbed the win in straight sets 7-6(2), 7-6(6); battling for two
hours and 33 minutes.
Both players started the match in cautious fashion. It was the Uzbek starlet who broke serve and took the lead in the set. However, the American, 37-years-old, tied the scores at 4-4 courtesy to a brilliantly crafted breakthrough.
There were no more breakpoints witnessed at the clay court of Charleston and the tie-breaker round was enforced to decide the opening set of the match. With all the experience, Craybas guided herself to a close triumph and hinted
a possible upset.
Despite losing the first set, Amanmuradova didn’t lost concentration; continued to perform the basic right and she was rewarded with a double breakthrough in the starting moments of the second set. She was cruising away with a
lead of 4-0 before the American registered the first serve hold in the second set.
Craybas was enjoying her time and didn’t take any pressure at all. She played brilliantly under the cosh and won one breakpoint back to diminish the trail. She registered a serve hold in the following game and the scores were pushed
to 3-4.
Both players registered serve holds in the following games that kept the scores close to 4-5. The Uzbek player required to hold her serve in the following game to enforce the third set into the play but her serves were wayward
that gifted the critical breakthrough to her opponent. Scores were tied at 5-5 and the pressure swirled back on the Uzbek.
No more breakpoints in the following two games enforced the second successive tie-breaker round in the match. This time the Uzbek player did well to stay in the match for long but her opponent was clever enough to win a mini-break
towards the end.
The 137th ranked American played a delicately placed drop shot that forced the Uzbek to scamper across the court and make a return. Craybas won the point and booked a date with the 13th seed Russian, Nadia
Petrova, in the second round.
