Jillian Tyler achieves Women’s 100m breaststroke title - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Jillian Tyler of CASC achieved gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke on day three of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Thursday, March 29.
The 23-year-old Tyler, who dominated the qualification round of the event, went full rampant in the playoff to reach the podium for gold medal. With her fascinating effort, she remained in a slight lead over her strongest opponent, Tera Van Beilen of OAK and hit the wall first for gold medal.
She accomplished gold medal of the event in a phenomenal time of 1 minute and 07.18 seconds. Her effort remained 0.19 seconds slower from her former finisher and she stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 07.37 seconds.
Beilen enjoyed an advantage of nearly one second over Martha McCabe of VAND, who proved her mettle for the third fastest spot of the swim by clocking a time of 1 minute and 08.12 seconds. Ashley McGregor of PCSC stayed 0.27 seconds slower from acquiring bronze medal of the discipline and hit the finishing blockade as fourth fastest swimmer by submitting a time of 1 minute and 08.39 seconds.
The fourth position holder was chased by Tianna Rissling of AMAC, who stayed 0.64 seconds slower from her foregoing competitor and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 09.03 seconds. Annamay Pierse remained sixth fastest swimmer of the event as she posted 1 minute and 09.21 seconds.
The seventh finishing spot of the discipline was secured by Chelsey Salli of LOSC, who stayed 0.01 seconds slower from foregoing competitor and emerged on the finishing wall with the timing of 1 minute and 09.22 seconds.
Haylee Johnson of VAND remained significantly slower from her preceding swimmer as she suffered a loss of 0.39 seconds and clocked a time of 1 minute and 09.61 seconds for eighth position.
The crowd appreciated commendable efforts of all participants in their 100m discipline while the position holders raked medals and accolades for their immaculate efforts at medal ceremony of the championship. In addition, the championship will conclude on April 1 after the completion of Canadian team to the 2012 London Games.
