Jillian Tyler dominates Women’s 100m breaststroke heats - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Jillian Tyler of IS wins the qualification rounds Women’s 100m breaststroke on third day of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Thursday, March 29.
The 23-year-old Tyler served notice of her immaculate efforts by snaring top position in the prelims of double lap breaststroke discipline. With her commendable efforts in the first lap, Tyler is now one-step closer to ensuring her place in the Canadian
squad to the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Tyler stayed almost half body length ahead of her following challenger and completed her race in a time of 1 minute and 07.79 seconds to clinch first position. Her remarkable sprint placed her in a lead of 0.33 seconds over Martha McCabe of VAND, who proved
her mettle for the second best qualification spot by concluding her pace in a time of 1 minute and 08.12 seconds.
In the meantime, Tera Van Beilen of OAK stunned the aquatic crowd by occupying third fastest spot of the discipline as she concluded her swim in a time of 1 minute and 08.15 seconds. Beilen was chased by Ashley McGregor of PCSC, who claimed her eligibility
for the fourth position of the two-lap discipline and posted a time of 1 minute and 08.76 seconds.
The fourth position holder remained just 0.02 seconds faster from Annamay Pierse of VAND, who hit the finishing blockade by posting an effort of 1 minute and 08.78 seconds for fifth position.
Moments later, Tianna Rissling of AMAC completed her swim in sixth fastest place as she clocked an effort of 1 minute and 08.81 seconds. She was chased by Fiona Doyle of UCSC, who stayed 0.17 seconds behind her former finisher and clocked a timing of 1 minute
and 08.98 seconds.
Similarly, Keri Hehn of BRUNCA earned eighth best spot of the discipline as she suffered a deficit of 0.12 seconds and posted a time of 1 minute and 09.10 seconds.
In addition, the crowd acknowledged forceful efforts of all participants while these challengers will compete with each other in the playoff, where top two finishers will secured their spots to London Games.
