Jim Boylen hired; Indiana Pacers finally complete their assistant coaching staff: NBA Update
The Indiana Pacers finally completed their three month search for assistants for the head coach Frank Vogel on Monday. The hiring was concluded with the inclusion of former head coach of the University of Utah, Jim Boylen. The
rest of the team comprises of Los Angeles Lakers ex-assistant coach Brian Shaw and Dan Burke.
Boylen is a good addition to the side. The coach has a long experience of both the collegiate level and National Basketball Association or NBA. Prior to joining the Pacers, Boylen spent almost 11 seasons with the Houston Rockets
and later served with the Golden State Warriors and Milwaukee Bucks as an assistant for one year.
During his tenure with the Rockets, Boylen coached legends like Hakeem Olajuwon and Yao Ming. These experiences of Boylen will definitely help Vogel in the future. Boylen is regarded by many as a defensive specialist and his experience
can go a long in removing the kinks in the young Pacer’s backcourt.
Previously there were rumours that Boylen might join the Los Angeles Lakers as an assistant, but it seems that the things did not work out between them.
Besides the experience of Boylen, Vogel now has the services of the dynamic Lakers ex-assistant coach Shaw. Earlier, Brian was the top contender to become the successor of former Hall of Fame coach Phil Jackson, but the Lakers
decided to bring the former head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers Mike Brown. Shaw had a terrific period with the Lakers. He was the part of the five NBA Championships, Laker won in the last decade, both in the capacity of a player and as a coach. Hea was
expected to head some franchise after the Lakers axe, but instead opted to join Vogel as an assistant.
As far as Dan Burke is concerned, he is a constant for the Pacers. The 2011-12 season will be his eighth season with them. Burke is famous for opponent preparation. He remained a video co-ordinator and a scout with the Portland
Trail Blazers for eight years.
The Pacers are one of the youngest teams in the league, but there is no shortage of talent and will. They displayed a plenty of both when they came face to face with Derrick Rose and his Chicago Bulls in the first round of Eastern
Conference playoffs. Now, that they have a strong coaching core, that carries the flair of Vogel and the experience of his associates, there is only one way, the Pacers will be heading next season. That way is upwards.
