Jim DeChamp gets injured while filming for Nitro Circus 3D
Jim DeChamp, a professional mountain biker and freestyle rider, sustained severe injuries during the filming of the upcoming feature film “Nitro Circus 3D” on June 29, in Utah.
He was attempting to pull off a car stunt for the film, but the stunt went wrong and he ended up in an ugly crash. He was instantly rushed off to the hospital and the doctor’s reports confirmed that he had sustained a broken vertebrae and severe head trauma.
He was put under induced coma.
While the mentioned injuries are not something to be taken lightly, members of the Nitro Circus Live management are feeling extremely relieved after getting to know that there was no spinal damage.
Jaime Mortimer, who is a Nitro Circus Live PR maven and the person who revealed the current condition of the 30-year-old Maryland native, said that after undergoing a surgery on Thursday, June 30, DeChamp is expected to make a full recovery.
Sustaining a back injury is not something new for the professional mountain biker and freestyle rider. He was sitting home with a diagonal compression fracture of his T12 vertebrae two years ago, after attempting to make history with a front-flip in the
Moto Best Trick at X Games 14. The resultant crash may have put him out of action for a while, but it was not enough to dim his passion for going overboard while performing thrilling tricks.
While almost all the members of Nitro Circus Live are well qualified to be referred to as supermen, DeChamp is considered to be the strongest of them all when it comes to endurance. According to Nitro Circus Live Creative Director Dov Ribnick, “It's pretty
scary. And if it was anyone else we would be really, really worried right now, but Jim is pretty much the toughest guy in the world.”
The 30-year-old has been part of the Nitro Circus quite some time now. He has collaborated with his close friend and the ringleader of the show, Travis Pastrana, on my many stunts.
Nitro Circus Live features Pastrana and his friends travelling around the world to give thrilling action sports performances.
