Jim Furyk hoping for title defence at Transitions Championship of PGA Tour
The PGA Tour event of Transitions Championship is going to commence from Thursday at the par-71, Salamander golf course in Florida.
It will be a field of the top ranked players who are going to be participating in the four-day championship. Conditions of the course will rather be challenging for a few as the total yardage measured is 7,340.
Transition is the main sponsor of the tournament, who have sanctioned a total prize money worth US $ 5.5 million.
It will be the American Jim Furyk, who will be defending his title in 2011. He was victorious in 2010 by a mere margin of one stroke over the Korean K.J. Choi.
Furyk is hoping to repeat his performance this year as well. He has had a few top-ten finishes and also missed the cutline in two recent tournaments.
Jim played well during the previous season and won three PGA Tour events. His hitting and putting was impressive as it was seen on the course. Furyk also won the PGA Tour Player of the Year in 2010.
This year has not been a great one for him. Furyk in his recent outing in the Cadillac Championship was tied at the 49th position and was rather disappointed with his four rounds. The best finish for him in the season was tied at ninth in Hyundai
Tournament of Champions.
The 40-year-old after playing the practice round said, “If you look at my face after winning last year, it was probably more at the time a sense of relief. It had been two-and-a-half years and I was putting a lot of pressure on myself. I really felt I wasn't
enjoying playing as much. I am hoping to repeat my performance this year also.”
Jim holds the number fourth spot on the Tour’s money list and has earned more than US $ 47 million.
Furyk will be up against a star-studded field with the top ranked players also featuring in the championship.
Nick Watney will also be teeing off on Thursday and is paired with Bubba Watson and the world number one Martin Kaymer. Watney won the WGC-Cadillac Championship recently and is confident of continuing his form in the tournament.
As for Kaymer, he will look to dominate this tournament so that he can hold on to his number one ranking before the start of Masters in April 2011. Kaymer will be in the spotlight of the championship and there are many expectations from him.
The first day of the championship is all set to produce some under-par scores and all the top ranked players are charged up for the tournament.
