Jim Furyk or Steve Stricker were better choices than Tiger Woods says Colin Montgomerie
The European Ryder Cup team captain, Colin Montgomerie has stirred up a storm by saying that he wouldn’t have chosen Tiger Woods if he were the captain of American side.
Monty said, "Tiger hasn't been himself on or off the course and it's a matter of seeing what he does." The 47-year-old added that if he had to choose for the American team, he would have opted for a player like Jim Furyk or even Steve Stricker, who both
seem relatively steadier.
While talking to the media persons, Montgomerie stated that Tiger had a lot to prove on the course especially after the s*x scandal that ultimately had a negative impact on his personal life. Meanwhile, a source close to American team said that they were
amazed at Colin’s statement.
On the other hand, after listening to such remarks, the world number one looks more motivated and ready to make Monty eat his words. At another occasion, the U.S. Open champion, Graeme McDowell, reacted to the remarks attributed to Rory McIlroy saying, "You
don't rile Tiger."
Earlier, McIlory, who would be playing in Wales on Thursday, was reported to have said that Tiger is vulnerable than ever, therefore, he can be attacked easily. Moreover, the World No. 1 Woods and his team landed in Cardiff yesterday at 11.05 am, where they
were greeted by posters that had ‘Montgomershire’ written on them.
These sudden attacks have fired up the US camp which still believes that Tiger is one of their greatest assets. It seems as if the rivals have just forgotten what Tiger did to the critics, who had claimed earlier at the 1997 Masters that the black golfer
won’t be able to make a mark in the Master’s history. Woods had claimed a nine-stroke victory against Tom Kites then.
Ironically, it was Montgomerie himself, who had earlier called Corey Pavin before the FedEx series, urging him to keep Tiger Woods in the team as he was a big asset. What’s wrong with you Monty? You too have Padraig Harrington with you, who has been winless
in the last two years. His constant failures can have a devastating effect on your final results.
